Abstract

It is crucial to collaborate in building a new management model for the Andalusian coastal region (Spain). Starting from the private member bill of the Andalusian Parliament that urges the Government Council to promote an integrated management project of coastal zones (2005), this article summarizes the work that has been carried out for the establishment and the implementation of the Andalusian Strategy on Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM): conceptual basis, methodological model, criteria, programs and actions. The focus and the type of experience are so innovative that they provide enough material to reflect on the great relevance of this sort of public policy for any coastal region.
