Abstract
Tapers in singlemode optical fibre cause the light to be redistributed among sustainable core and cladding modes. Changes in transmission by interference between these modes when recombined in a second taper occur when the fibre is heated between the tapers. © 1993, The Institution of Electrical Engineers.
