Abstract

The fundamental objective of this paper is to determine the dynamic response of the structure by the influence of stiffness and mass parameters. In this paper, we are presenting time stepping methods to obtain solutions for nonlinear dynamic problems in structural engineering using numerical evaluation. A benchmark structure having three degrees of freedom is considered and analyzed using Newmark’s method for nonlinear system by implementing the El Centro Ground acceleration and time values. The results of the study detail the reduction in displacement of the structure for the arbitrary increase in percentage of the mass and stiffness of the system to obtain the optimum mass and stiffness that can be additional to the damping devices.
