Abstract

An attempt was made to join sintered silicon nitride ceramics without using any joining agents. The joining was accomplished by the diffusion of sintering aids which have been incorporated within the original sintered body. Joining was carried out by heating the system at the temperature range between 1400 degree C and 1600 degree C with or without the application of pressure of 200 kgf/cm**2. From the above results, it is concluded that the silicon nitride ceramics which contain substantial amounts of oxides as sintering aids can be joined together, without using any joining agent.
