Abstract

West Nile virus (WNV) remains a worldwide emerging disease in the infectious disease realm and has been for several decades. Despite this, options for management of this disease include only supportive and preventive care. With an understanding of the impact of WNV, its etiology, risk factors for acquiring the disease, risk factors for severe disease, in addition to knowing the current standard of care and preventive care, the importance of recognizing WNV and the need for new strategies for management and prevention can be realized.
