Abstract

NEO−PI−R is a personality inventory based on the five factor model (FFM) of personality, and is designed for a wide age range of people, from adolescent to elderly. Originally published by Costa & McCrae (1985, 1992b), NEO-PI-R was translated into Japanese through several pleliminary examinations, including back translation. Subsequently, the inventory was administered to a rnixture of two samples of 245 college undergraduates and 232 elderly people. Cronbach's alpha coefflcients, exploratory factor analyses, and confirmatory factor analyses with procrastes rotation showed that the japanese NEO-PI-R has sufficient reliability and validity. Results of the present study were also discussed in the context of cross-culture research.
