Abstract

Statistical tests on the distribution of the number of chiasmata per chromosome, collected from literatures, showed that they can be approximated by binomial distributions with one obligatory chiasma, i.e., B(N–1, p). N is proportional to the average number of chiasmata, while p is nearly constant for the species tested. © 1988, The Genetics Society of Japan. All rights reserved.
