Abstract

The concept of Digital Ecosystem is defined, examples given and the idea that a Digital Ecosystem is, in fact, a Complex Adaptive System is introduced and elaborated. The paper then describes how to use ontology and multi-agent technology as a platform for designing digital ecosystems. A design of an urban digital ecosystem is presented as an illustration.
