The article argues in favor of the use of digital open educational resources (OER) by academic libraries as a means to combat the high prices associated with traditional textbooks. Topics discussed include the work of the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC), the alternative textbook project at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst Open Education Initiative (UMA OEI).
