Abstract
Background. Cardiorespiratory arrest is a major health problem, especially if it occurs in an out-of-hospital environment. Survival is related to the presence of a witness who performs basic life support maneuvers. Children and young people must be in the target population on which this training begins. Methods. A descriptive observational study was carried out pre-post intervention with a sample of 287 students of Primary School of the “La Trinidad” school in Córdoba. Three questionnaires were passed: one before receiving the training, another a week and the last one after the intervention. Results. The study highlighted two important facts: it was confirmed that the intervention had been effective, since the students improved their results in the posttest questionnaires; on the other hand, it was found to which age group it is better to start training in basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers. Conclusions. It has been concluded that the education and training of the population, as in this case children, are the fundamental pillar to respond to this problem. Nursing would be the most suitable candidate for the performance of this function.
