Abstract

Recently, carbon dioxide (CO2) capture and storage (CCS) technology has been a hot research topic since CO2 emissions are one of the most important reasons of global warming and climate change. In this study, CO2 absorption system was established to study the chemical absorption process of CO2 in MEA solution with nano-particles. This paper mainly aims to study the mass transfer enhancement with the presence of nano-particles in the CO2 absorption process. The nano-fluids used in this work were prepared by the ultrasonic treatment without any surfactants. It was found that the CO2 absorption rate could be enhanced by up to 8% with the presence of nano-particles compared to the pure MEA solution. © 2013 The Author.
