Abstract

Molecules drift along a temperature gradient called thermal diffusion, thermophoresis, or the Ludwig-Soret effect, which has been known since the works of Ludwig and Soret in the 19th century, although understanding the effect's molecular mechanisms remains unclear. We introduce recent research results of the Ludwig-Soret effect for polymers and biomaterials. Several interesting topics shown here are based on the experimental results of the holographic grating technique of thermal diffusion forced Rayleigh scattering (TDFRS).
