Abstract
One of the specificities of biodiversity indicators in forest environments is that they are based on the structural features of the landscape. The underlying assumption is that these indicators are an effective means for Indirectly monitoring the status of biodiversity by providing forest managers with instructive information at a low cost. However, there are many uncertainties as to the presumed connections between these indirect indicators and the actual state of biodiversity in forest environments. Indeed, some direct taxonomie indicators produce the exact opposite view to that offered by structural indicators. We wish to review these various points and emphasize that indirect indicators can be supplemented by direct indicators for the purpose of combining structural and function information about forest biodiversity.
