Abstract

The enthalpy of formation has been determined for the Al-Fe-Si solid solution phases τ6, τ2, τ3, τ8, τ4 with a Tian-Calvet calorimeter (Setaram), by dissolution in an aluminium bath at 800°C (1073 K). The single-phase alloys were prepared by levitation melting followed by annealing. All alloys were investigated by X-ray diffraction and their precise composition was determined by atomic absorption spectrometry.
