From individual resilience to system responsibility: introduction to the double special issue, Sustainable Careers in Higher Education

Abstract

The concept of ‘sustainable career’ is used as a means of understanding the evolving experiences of those who work in higher education and is reflective of the many changes in the broader workforce. The sustainable career framework offers a lens within which to conceptualise the complex, non-linear, and contextually contingent pathways that now characterise academic and professional lives. This double special issue proffers 16 perspectives from around the world and across many facets of those who work in higher education, including academic and professional staff, higher degree students, and those who inhabit ‘third spaces’.
