Abstract

A study has been made of the interdiffusion of copper from an α solid solution into aluminium with special attention to minimizing experimental and computational errors. The form of the concentration-distance curves obtained showed that interdiffusion was independent of concentration within the range 0-0.5 wt.% copper. The activation energy calculated from the slope of a loge D ̃ versus T-1 plot was 31.12 ± 1.54 kcal/g and the frequency factor D ̃0 was 0.29-0.17+0.43 cm2/sec. It is concluded that the data obtained are closely related to the tracer diffusion of copper in aluminium. © 1961.
