Abstract

We address the problem of correlated distribution of stable isotopes in crystal structures. Two aspects are examined: 1) the existence of natural isotopic ordering and alternative tendency of isotope segregation and 2) purposeful "isotopic engineering" as a prospective direction of microstructuring. Some potential applications of isotopic structuring are: isotopic light confinement (isotopic fiberoptics), "fine tuning" of quantum well potentials and superlattices realizing Neumann-Wigner bound states immersed into continuum spectrum. © 1988.
