Abstract

This paper presents an analysis of the profile of morbidity and mortality in Commune 18 of Cali, Colombia, with the purpose of present a methodology for the construction of priorities in health that orient the decision making in the local scope. The analysis of tendencies presented these problems: mortality by violence and traffic accidents, the related ones to infantile mortality, the neurological problems, and the hypertensive diseases and the diabetes since they are generating a great amount of lost years of potential life and lost years of productive life. A call to the local authorities in health for the consolidation of networking health services and the application to epidemiology approach to reach equity in health. © 2002 Corporación Editora Médica del Valle.
