Abstract
The drought is a climatic risk with great repercussions on water supply systems for urban-tourist and farming uses. The aims of this research are: 1) to analyse and evaluate the measures carried out in the Southeast of Spain (Basin of Segura river) from the point of view of planning and management urban water uses; and 2) to assess its degree of adaptation to the 2015-19 drought event regarding the measures implemented. To do so, several documents and sources have been consulted and reviewed. First, laws and regulations related to water resources in terms of availability and demands both in situations of normality and exceptionality (droughts). And, secondly, data regarding water resources availability, specifically the volumes stored in the headwaters of the Tagus River where transfers depart to the Segura Basin, and the supply sources of the Mancomunidad de los Canales del Taibilla. The results show that the Southeast of Spain is a region with a wide experience in water management matching with drought events. And, despite the increase of water demand, has become a region less vulnerable compared to other spanish areas.
