Abstract

The author expresses his view that 2008 U.S. presidential candidate John McCain is willing to risk the efficiency and stability of the U.S. health care system with market-oriented reforms. He discusses the consequences of the potential loss of employer-sponsored coverage. He notes that McCain has not made a commitment to insuring all Americans. He believes that encouraging consumers to purchase less generous insurance plans will jeopardize the health of chronically ill Americans.
