Abstract
In today’s rapidly evolving global economy, rural development plays a pivotal role in fostering sustainable national growth. However, rural areas are often hindered by various barriers, including limited access to financial services, inadequate infrastructure, and the widening digital divide. This research delves into the transformative potential of digital banking to bridge these gaps and promote financial inclusion, economic resilience, and environmental sustainability in rural communities. The study identifies the barriers faced by rural populations, such as low financial literacy, lack of trust in digital systems, and insufficient internet penetration, and explores how digital banking solutions can empower individuals, businesses, and communities. Through a mixed-methods approach, including quantitative analysis of survey data from 500 rural respondents and qualitative insights from interviews with 20 stakeholders, this research assesses the impact of digital banking adoption on economic, social, and environmental outcomes. The findings highlight the significant role of digital literacy and trust in facilitating the adoption of digital banking services, which in turn positively affect financial inclusion, entrepreneurship, and social equity, especially for marginalized groups. Additionally, digital banking promotes environmental sustainability by reducing the carbon footprint of traditional banking infrastructures. The study also proposes a conceptual model that links digital banking adoption with sustainable rural development outcomes, emphasizing the need for targeted interventions, such as digital literacy programs, infrastructure improvements, and trust-building strategies. The research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on the role of digital banking in rural transformation and offers policy recommendations for leveraging technology to achieve inclusive and sustainable growth in rural areas.
