Abstract
The Joint Airport Weather Studies (JAWS) Project field experiment, conducted in and around Denver, Colorado during summer 1982, was marked by the participation of two ground-based CO//2 Doppler lidars. One was operated by NASA, Marshall Space Flight Center and the other by NOAA/ERL/Wave Propagation Laboratory; respective systems characteristics are summarized. This paper presents preliminary results of the first dual analyses to be performed using Doppler lidar measurements. It was found that the calculated wind fields agreed with observations of surface winds made routinely using the Portable Automated Mesonet (PAM) stations operated by the National Center for Atmospheric Research.
