Abstract

A number of pharmacological agents are currently available for the induction of the fetal hemoglobin (Hb F) to treat the patients with sickle cell disease and β-thalassemia. In the present review, we summarized the investigation and development of these Hb F-inducing agents and introduced histone deacetylase inhibitors as the new strategy to induce Hb F to treat the hemoglobin disorders. © 2004 Taylor & Francis Ltd.
