Abstract

Arctic thermokarst lakes may be a significant carbon source during interglacial periods. This paper focuses on the relationship between permafrost degradation, thaw-lake development and the carbon cycle. In particular, it is aimed to resolve the magnitude of methane release from lakes to the atmosphere during the late Quaternary, and in the future as climate continues to warm.
