Abstract

The Metaverse is a concept that has been evolving over the years and has recently become a more important figure in the medical world. We understand that there are four essential pillars to build the metaverse: virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality, and advances in telecommunications. Virtual reality is the creation of a completely digital world, augmented reality is giving digital features to the real world, mixed reality is the interaction of the previous concepts and finally the speed of internet communication has allowed all these tools to blossom. These four pillars have given rise to the metaverse having a presence in many professional fields, including medical education. This article seeks to review and bring together all the tools in development or in use that rely on the metaverse to improve anesthesia education, from teaching platforms to the creation of interactive and immersive virtual scenarios where medical students or anesthesia residents can interact and develop technical and non-technical skills.
