Abstract

Literacy involves language practices that impact the construction of identity and citizen education. This vision is particularly challenging for adolescents and young people detained in the Adolescent Criminal Responsibility System (SRPA) in Colombia. The research described in this article is uses a mixed-methodology approach. The initial pre-test result is presented, which measures the level of literacy among participants. The main findings of the study evidence that the adolescents and young people detained in the SRPA have difficulties with reading comprehension and writing. These practi-ces are alien to their forms of communicating and expresing their dreams, interests, fears and inter-pretations of the world.
