Abstract

The radio properties of a distance-limited sample of 25 Seyfert andrelatively narrow line X-ray galaxies (NLXGs) having recessionvelocities of less than 3100 km/s with respect to the centroid of theLocal Group are studied using VLA maps. Previous conclusions that theradio sources in type 2 Seyferts are both larger and more powerful thanthose in type 1 Seyferts are confirmed. The NLXGs show radio propertiessimilar to the type 2 Seyferts and significantly different from the type1 Seyferts. Linear radio sources are found in approximately one-third ofall Seyfert galaxies and in more than two-thirds of those withwell-resolved radio sources. There is no tendency for the axes ofSeyfert galaxy radio sources to be parallel or perpendicular to themajor axes of the galaxies' overall stellar distributions. This resultindicates that the collimating disks in the galaxy nuclei must be tippedwith respect to the galaxy planes.
