Abstract

A review (22 ref.) including author's research. Asym. Darzens reactionscarried out under phase-transfer catalysis conditions were criticallyreviewed. Use of the conc. aq. solns. of alkali metal hydroxidesor solid hydroxides as bases and the chiral quaternary ammonium saltsas catalysts was taken into consideration. Reactions of benzaldehydewith chloroacetic acid esters were presented as examples. An enzymicmethod for sepn. of Z and E isomers of 3-phenylglycidic esters andenantiomers of Z isomer of Me 3-phenylglycidate by using lipase wasalso presented. [on SciFinder (R)]
