Data from investigation on seismic Sea-waves events in the Eastern Mediterranean from the Birth of Christ to 500 A.D.

Abstract

The Eastern Mediterranean has a long history of damaging seismic sea waves (Tsunamis) but a great number of them which are locally generated are small. They have caused no serious damage to the coasts because their energy is confined by many islands of the Greek Archipelagos. However, some of them have been rather severe and destructive to property and human life. This paper is comprised of data from an investigation into the activity of seismic sea waves in the Eastern Mediterranean from the Birth of Christ to 500 A.D. It contains a great amount of information concerning earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and seismic sea waves. All the available information has been compiled from historical accounts, archives, press reports, magazines and related works.
