Novel Metformin Indications and Skin Disorders

Abstract

Metformin is the first-line medication to increase insulin sensitivity in insulin-resistant conditions such as type 2 diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome, and obesity. However, metformin is a drug with a wide range of pharmacological properties, showing the ability to treat various skin conditions. Some inflammatory skin dermatoses, skin neoplasms, endocrinology-related dermatosis, pigmentary disorders, skin aging, and wound healing have all shown improvement when metformin is used.
