Abstract

Recent studies in Social Sciences and Education in Brazil provide evidences to briefly describe some trends in socio-educational diagnosis and discuss its issues. We observe that there is relevant research related to education, but still scarce robust production on the main challenges of the Brazilian educational systems. There is fragile production capable of inferences about the main factors that characterize schooling. On the other hand, research on educational success in unfavorable contexts has revealed a promising scenario for overcoming some of the main challenges for Brazilian education. Success is associated with low segregation; the commitment of families; the high expectations of educators and family members about children's trajectories; pedagogical leadership related to educational entrepreneurship and innovation; institutional focus on learning, accompanied by non-retention.
