Abstract
There are five distinctive characteristics of the biochemistry of copper, four of which are chemical: Cu(II) is the most effective available divalent ion for binding to organic molecules (Fig. 2.8). Since this is in fair measure due to its electron affinity, it is also the best attacking acid available at around pH= 7, but it rarely used as such in organisms.
