Abstract
The aim of this article is to present a general view about a new phenomenon observed in Brazilian literature, generally referred to as "Indigenous Literature". Firstly, the article poses some questions about this type of writing using the anthropological concepts by Gell and Danto in their discussions about the idiosyncrasies of indigenous art, as well as the differences in its reception in the Western World. Moreover, the applicability of Roemer's questions about North American Indigenous' literature is also discussed. At last, a corpus composed by thirteen Brazilian indigenous books is analyzed in order to present its major characteristics and, finally, the essay proposes several reflections about the theme. Several of these reflections are based on the theories of the above cited authors, as applied to the Brazilian context.
