Abstract

The study aimed to find out whether the mathematical communication skills (MCS) of students who gained cooperative learning with the Think-Talk-Write (TTW) technique were better than conventional learning. The research was conducted using pseudo-experimental methods with randomized pretest - posttest control group design. The population in this study was all students of class X Sma Negeri 2 Plus Panyabungan Subdistrict. A sample of 63 students was taken from two X classes, each as an experimental class and a control class. Experimental classes got cooperative learning with TTW techniques, while control classes as a comparison got conventional learning. To obtain the necessary data, instruments are used in the form of tests. Data analysis is done quantitatively for posttest results data. From the posttest value data obtained an average score of 26.1 for the experiment class and 20.96 in.the control class. Data in experimental classes and control classes are normal and homogeneous so that hypothesis tests are performed with t-test using SPSS 15. The results of hypothesis testing showed that the mathematical communication skills of students who received cooperative learning with TTW techniques were better than conventional learning.
