Abstract

Objective: to determine the knowledge and attitudes towards organ and tissue donation of nursing students at a public university in Chile. Methods: quantitative, observational, cross-sectional study. The population consisted of 266 nursing students. A questionnaire on attitudes and knowledge regarding organ donation in Chile was administered. Results: 54.8% did not know or did not know about the organ donation law in Chile and 73.3% did not know or did not know about the procedure required to become a donor. Regarding attitude, 95.5% were in favour of donation and 91.4% would be willing to receive a transplanted organ or tissue. Conclusion: These findings support the need for educational programmes that address knowledge gaps and promote a more informed and supportive organ and tissue donation culture in the community.
