Abstract

It is acknowledged that the whole of this text is about advancing your understanding of nursing informatics which is education, this chapter focusses upon the key message that education must take on the mantle of preparing future generations of nurses to be active participants in information and communications technology (ICT) developments across healthcare rather than just teaching ‘computer skills’. A humanistic model of information is offered to try to explore ways of moving away from a mechanistic approach to health ICT and this is linked to progressive development from inactivity to wisdom. In conclusion some key learning outcomes are presented for consideration.
