Estrutura da comunidade de pequenos mamíferos não voadores em campos nativos do Pantanal de Poconé

Abstract

The knowledge about the diversity of small mammals in the Pantanal is far from complete, especially in grassland habitats. Here we describe the richness and abundance of rodents and marsupials in native grasslands in the subregion of Poconé, surveyed during three distinct occasions over 17 months. Seven species were recorded throughout the study. More than 90% of the captures were related to three species: Holochilus sciureus, Callomys cf. callosus and Necromys lasiurus. This is the first time that H. sciureus is reported as the most common species in a community of non-volant small mammals in the Pantanal. The composition of the community appears to be quite variable even in spatial and temporal small scales, despite the low richness and high abundance of some species.
