Abstract
This research aims to discuss the relations that emerge between archaeology and community through the experience and trajectory of the Museo Comunitario San Jacinto, located in the heart of the Montes de María, Bolivar Department, Colombia. This museum is the result of the community process that started 30 years ago, and its history is traversed by different moments of violence experienced in the region over the last two decades. In this context, it is observed that in the Museo that archaeological heritage takes a restorative social function when it legitimizes the past to strengthen the present community identity, an identity weakened by the armed conflict.
