Abstract
This preliminary study investigates the perceptions of artificial intelligence (AI) among computer science (CS) and non-computer science (non-CS) students at a teaching-focused institution. Using an eight-question survey, it examines their attitudes toward AI's impact, benefits, drawbacks, trust in AI-utilizing companies, and comfort with AI technologies. Initial findings reveal that CS students tend to be more optimistic and confident about AI's potential, while non-CS students exhibit higher trust in AI companies but express greater apprehension. Both groups acknowledge ethical concerns and recognize AI's transformative role in daily life.As an ongoing study, this work aims to address its current limitations, including reliance on binary survey questions and a small participant pool, by refining its methodology with more nuanced survey designs and advanced statistical analyses. These preliminary results underscore the importance of tailored AI education that bridges knowledge gaps and fosters interdisciplinary collaboration. By presenting these findings, we aim to gather valuable feedback and stimulate discussion to guide future research and the development of inclusive AI curricula.
