Abstract

Smartphones are finding increasing applications in sensors. Smartphones can be used as the sensing signal reader and the sensing transducer, or to enable sensors via a wireless network. In addition, sensors can be combined with the global positioning system (GPS) in the smartphone to allow positioning of sensing and mapping of target analytes. Therefore, portable smartphone-based sensor (SPS) systems have great potential for field-deployable or point-of-care applications. This article presents recent progress in the SPS system development.
