Abstract

Two new chromones, 3,5,6-trihydroxy-2-methylchromone (1) and 3,5,8-trihydroxy-2-methylchromone (2) have been isolated and identified from treatment of D-glucuronic or D-galacturonic acid in aqueous solutions of pH 3.5 and 4.5, respectively, at 96?C. Compound 2 was also isolated from similar treatment of D-xylose. The MS spectra of compounds 1, 2 and 3,8-dihydroxy-2-methylchromone (6) are discussed. The former two (1, 2) seem to be new compounds.
