Abstract
Objectives: Research shows patients/public-healthcare professional (PP-HCP) partnerships adds specific but limited value to change initiatives1. Use of methods for quality Improvement (QI) facilitate this partnership working2. A business model, ‘value co-creation’3 states value can be optimised by improving the quality of interactions between partners. This study assessed how QI methods are used in practice with PP across different QI programmes or initiatives and how the methods influence value achieved from PP-HCP partnershipsMethods: 32 semi-structured interviews, 120 hours participant observation and 150 documents (including process maps, Plan-Do-Study-Act cycles (PDSAs), driver diagrams) were analysed across 4 varied initiatives in 1 QI programme(NIHR CLAHRC Northwest London-UK). 17 more interviews were conducted in 6 purposively sampled QI programmes across the UK and US, plus 6 with people with no QI programme support. Constant Comparative Method was used to analyse within and across cases to assess how different structures and approaches shaped the partnerships
