Abstract
Pedagogical translation tends to be underestimated in the context of foreign language teaching and it is often applied in the L2 classroom improperly, disorderly and unsystematically, given the lack of a theoretical background that ays the foundations for this skill. The use of pedagogical translation is especially useful in the teaching of English for Specific Purposes, where language is seen as a work tool adapted to different professional needs. In particular, this paper, which shows the benefits of applying translation as a teaching tool, aims to introduce and promote oral and written mediation tasks in the teaching of English for Specific Purposes (Business English). In this paper, translation is conceived as a methodological tool complementary to other language activities and adapted to the linguistic needs of future workers in the sector of international trade. This paper is a proposal that includes mediation activities (translation and interpreting), with a clear professional orientation, which can be carried out in the Business English classroom to encourage bilingualism and to develop fluency and responsiveness of students to bilingual business contexts. In summary, our paper has the ultimate goal of recovering one of the most ignored and criticized activities of language: the translation activity, which - properly applied and integrated into L2 curricula - offers numerous benefits.
