Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Van Hiele's theory on the understanding of elementary school students' geometry material. The research method used is Systematic Literature Review by collecting articles relevant to the research topic, the final result is 11 articles from 284 articles. Van Hiele's theory-based learning is able to improve elementary school students' understanding of geometry material, namely because Van Hiele's theory is based on students' level of understanding. If the application of learning material for a subject pays attention to the level of student understanding, then students will be able to understand the material at a higher level because they must understand at a lower level first, and be able to make meaningful learning. Van Hiele theory-based learning is defined as the application of learning from the Van Hiele theory learning phase, including the information phase, the direct orientation phase, the explanation phase, the free orientation phase and the integration phase. Based on a literature study that has been carried out using relevant articles and has gone through a selection process, the application of Van Hiele's theory in learning geometry has the effect of increasing the understanding of elementary school students.
