Abstract

Urban stormwater quality has a significant impact to receiving water. Therefore, it is important to determine the quality of the urban stormwater from the university area as stormwater runoff will be transported to the receiving water. The objective of this study is to investigate the influence of rainfall characteristics on Total Suspended Solids concentration of stormwater runoff from the university area. The samplings of stormwater runoff and rainfall measurement were carried out in a small catchment in Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Skudai, Johor, Malaysia. Twenty five samples from two storm events were analysed. The results show that the pattern of rainfall plays an important role of TSS concentration. First flush phenomenon was also observed from both events.
