Abstract

Nodular fasciitis is a common lesion in the head and neck area in the pediatric population. In adults the extremities are the favored location. A 10-year-old girl developed a rapidly growing orbital mass that resulted in medial deviation of the eyeglobe. Clinical diagnosis was a malignant neoplasm, probably rhabdomyosarcoma. A fine needle aspiration biopsy yielded a preoperative diagnosis of nodular fasciitis. The patient underwent surgical resection and had histologic confirmation of the cytologic diagnosis.
