Abstract

Assessing the effectiveness of psychotherapy should not be limited to studying its impact on several core variables. Manualization of treatment and the use of adherence checks are also key aspects of psychotherapy research : they describe the treatment, ensure that the therapists follow the treatment model, and thus allow researchers to understand what about the therapy is efficacious. This paper presents the therapeutic manual for Brief Systemic Intervention (BSI), a six-session treatment model used with couples and families who seek treatment at the Psychiatry Department at the University Hospital in Lausanne. The treatment's effectiveness in the short and medium-term is measured through self-reported questionnaires that assess : (1) individual symptoms ; (2) marital satisfaction ; (3) the parent-child relationship ; (4) the coparental relationship ; (5) family relationships. The questionnaires are filled out by each family member. BSI is an integrative model that combines theornetcal concepts from the main schools of systemic family therapy. It adheres to the general principles that are common to the various systemic approaches. The difficulty of developing an integrative systemic therapy manual will be discussed. © 2013, Médecine and Hygiène.
