Abstract

The major-accident hazards industries involving dangerous substances are subjected to European Council Directive 96/82. In according with Sevesos norms the operator must produce the Safety Report (SR) in which he must demonstrate that all necessary measures are taken in order to prevent such accidents. The essential purpose of the Indexed Method is to find, through a numerical classification, the technological units of plant that are probable accident sources. In this way the operator aims to implementation the most appropriate prevention and protection measures in order to reduce the major-accident hazards. In Annex A of the present paper the application of the Indexed Method to an underground tank stocking liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is described.
