Abstract

Determinations of the heats of solutions of some amorphous polymers have shown in different solvents that al the glass-like polymers liberate heat. The exothermal heat of solution is a linear function of the glass temperature. This principle applies to a wide range of Tg and is explained by the state of equilibrium of polymer glasses. The investigation of the heat of solution as a function of the method of sample preparation and of the chemical structure of the chain has shown this characteristics to be fairly sensitive to chemical composition and physical structure changes; it can be used in combination with other methods to study these. © 1980.
