Abstract

This new manual is the product of nearly two decades of successful practice by internationally acclaimed community planning specialists. It will enable both planning veterans and people with little or no experience in the field to conduct a wide variety of community engagement events with absolute confidence. It introduces the SpeakOut, an innovative, interactive drop-in process with some of the qualities of an Open House and a participatory workshop. It provides hands-on, step-by-step guidance, detailed checklists and practical advice on how to manage community engagement processes, as well as advice on facilitation and recording and training of helpers. This unique, illustrated manual is a must-have tool for community, city and regional planners, activists, community organizations, students in planning and other land professions and workshop facilitators and trainers everywhere.
